Funeral services in memory of Miss Allean Symmes were held at the home 1210 South Elm Street, this (Thursday) afternoon at 2 o’clock. The love and esteem in which the young lady was held was evidenced by the many whop aid a last tribute to the deceased by their attendance and by the wealth of flowers, final messages from saddened hearts. Rev. L.P. Marshall of the First Presbyterian Church conducted the services in a most impressive manner and the body was taken to Oak Hill cemetery where the last rites were performed and burial made in the Symmes lot. Members of the senior class of the high school acted as pall bearers as follows: Clio Shaw; Grade Chackwick; Frank Maxwell; New Hill; Burt Haines and Fred Albright. The flower bearers were also class mates of Miss Symmes and three close friends from the junior class. The seniors were Miss Ruth Merrell; Miss Hildegarde Schlemmer and Miss Opal Rhodes. The juniors were Miss Eulah Ramsey, Miss Bertha Miller and Miss Bess McCampbell. The other flower bearer was Max Bandell. Thursday morning at 10 o’clock. Allean Symmes, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Sam D. Symmes, died at the home of her parents, 1210 South Elm Street, Tuesday evening about 8 o’clock. News of her passing came as a sad shock to her many friends in this city and the heartfelt sympathy of the community goes out to the bereaved family. Miss Symmes was born in Crawfordsvile March 7, 1894, and had just passed her 17th birthday anniversary. For about a week she had been ill with lung fever and it is believed this weakened her heart, causing her untimely death Tuesday evening. Miss Allean was one of the most popular students in the Crawfordsville high school and was a member of the senior class of that institution. Had she lived she would have graduated with the class of 1911 next June. Besides her parents she is survived by three brothers, Frank, Clyde and Will Symmes and one sister, Mrs. Ruth Armstrong, wife of Henry Armstrong. She had been a member of the First Presbyterian Church for the past four years and was much interested in the work of that church. Funeral services will be held at the home Thursday afternoon at 2 o’clock conducted by Rev. LP Marshall of the First Presbyterian Church. Interment will be made in Oak Hill Cemetery. – transcribed by kbz
